The OP is dead right. There aren't enough PS3 players who want to read long text screens before playing a friggin FPS, to keep DUST viable.
It needs to be a deep PC shooter or a shallow PS3 shooter. A deep PS3 shooter is an oxymoron that will not survive.
The bar for being elitist has really gotten low! A few years ago if you were dragging Proust or War and Peace to the coffee shop you might be jokingly accused of being elitist. Now if you read some PS3 text your are en elitist egg head know it all. LOL. What is the standard of literature in your trail...errr house? People magaizne?

Meridius wrote: I did read it then eventually skipped it because I knew what it was trying to get at, remember I played EvE long time so stuff in DUST is familiar to ME but to others it may be difficult which is understandable why they have that wall of text. BUT that wall of text is a bad presentation of teaching the player about all the complicated functions of DUST, what I'm trying to get at is that wall of text COULD be presented better and you would think by now CCP would learn from their past and present tutorials better (EvE tutorial is even better than DUST)
As I said you can blow thru all that, jump in a skirmish, then it's just a shooter and you pew pew the other guy. It is NOT in any way complicated. Stop being afraid of words, it's embarrassing.Don't think that just because it's CCP it means it has that "learning curve is too damn high" I don't think EVE is complicated either, but that's another story. CCP made a shooter related/integrated with EVE but other than a few similarities, skill books, gear purchase, make the character you want etc. that's the end of the similarities. I'm really laughing now, "too long didn't read" LOL. Hey, tell your friends to get used to minimum wage and tell them to make my latte hotter, I hate it under temp.
Look with all seriousness this is why everyone is getting ripped off by their boss, school, banks, employers etc. "THE MAN" reads, so you better learn. I bet you didn't see that arbitration agreement in all those loans/contracts you signed. You know you can't sue them in a court of law right? Yet all I hear the mouth breathers say is "it's a free country", yeah until you signed the things you didn't read. If a few paragraphs is too much reading your friends are going to be low wage fools who are saddled with huge debt their whole life, this is sad. |

Your belief is false, imagine that. I wish I had a dollar for everyone on a game forum who had an MBA with a dual video game programming degree. It's called a niche, they are no more competing against COD than eve is competing with wow. What you are saying is to race to the bottom and be all things to all people, this is a business death sentence.

Thomas Gore wrote:You have to think outside your EVE box. Think about the average console gamer and how much time they want to invest in finding info about the game instead of just playing it. They bought the console to make it easy to play games.
I've been playing EVE since December, it's not an EVE box. These guys aren't after the call of duty kids, they will get some but that isn't the demographic of this game. You look foolish saying this game is after, wants or needs the COD demographic. They tweaked the wheel here, they didn't reinvent it and it's pretty much a no brainer, hence the illegal suits. First it's on PS3 and that right there tells you they are going after older gamers, XBOX is the defacto childrens console. Adults don't waste their time online having a console war, those are young teens.
The only thing this game has in common with EVE is the theme, skills and some customization, that's it. This is a simple shooter with a customizable suit swith weapons you buy, it's not rocket science and frankly if no one reads the "wall of painful words" it won't matter. It's not like you can "scew up" your character.

But I guess we will see how this turns out. CCP of course can make the tutorial less text-intensive and soften the learning curve to alleviate the problem. Let's just hope they won't be too late with that.
Maybe CCP can make you pictures?

More elitism. Great! Keep up the work and as I said, let's see how it turns out.
It's funny and sad at the same time that defending a couple of paragraphs in a video game is considered "elitist." If you want to know the future of this country watch "idiocracy." |
